Ilocos Norte as the Typhoon Capital of the Philippines

After having visited by four typhoons in the last 2 months (Helen, Igme, Karen and Nina), Ilocos Norte is to be visited by 7 more typhoons until December as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

This begs the question “Is Ilocos Norte becoming the Typhoon Capital of the Philippines?” Although typhoons don’t hit the same province every year, it seems 2008 is the worst year for Ilocos Norte in terms of number of typhoons visits.

Laoag City, Batac and Pagudpud (three of the most productive towns in Ilocos Norte) have been hit hard by past typhoons and businesses here have suffered a great deal. It’s a good thing Ilocanos easily bounce back after natural calamities like these.
