Brownouts in Ilocos Norte Could Become More Frequent

Every summer, the whole province of Ilocos Norte suffers from brownouts every now and then. Some are scheduled, others are not. This has been the trend in the province since I was a young boy. With the decreasing amount of water in the rivers during summer, this trend could worsen in the future.

The places most seriously affected are Laoag City, Batac City and San Nicolas because these are the places with the most number of households and business establishments. This case is especially true in the two cities mentioned because power outages mean a lot of money lost by businessmen (me included).

The Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative should do something about this. Maybe it’s high time Ilocos Norte adapts alternative ways to generate power to service the whole province. Just a random thought.
