Filipino Nurses Attend Jobs Fair in Ilocos Norte, Reflects Unemployment Rate

Many Filipino nurses attended the jobs fair held here in Ilocos Norte last week. The event was sponsored by the Philippine Overseas and Employment Agency (POEA) and the local government of Ilocos Norte. It aimed to provide jobseekers (from Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Cagayan and other provinces) venue to apply for jobs that suit them best.

Since I went there to observe the whole affair, what I saw gave me the impression of the real employment rate in the Philippines. More than 2,000 applicants, msotly Ilocanos, applied for jobs in line with health care, IT, teaching, housekeeping and other areas of employment.

It was pretty clear during that one-day only event how serious is the unemployment rate in the Philippines. It was really saddening but enlightening at the same time. I was also able to realize the number of Filipino nurses who are unemployed in this province.
